MANILA, Philippines – Roger Gorayeb has won countless crucial matches throughout his legendary coaching career, but his greatest victory to date has come off the volleyball field after battling cancer.

Gorayeb, the former head coach of the national team, underwent eight cycles of therapy and four months of dialysis to recover from multiple myeloma, a type of cancer that forms in the plasma cells responsible for making antibody.

In an Instagram post, his former player Gretchen Ho shared the good news on Wednesday on Father’s Day.

“Faith on fear. It’s a miracle! Coach Roger Gorayeb is now negative for cancer, “said Ho.

It’s also on Ho’s website, womaninaction.ph, that Gorayeb detailed his fight to beat the disease.

“I had a serum test a month ago and it was negative on everything,” said Gorayeb in the Philippines. “It was zero, I am cancer free. There are no signs, no lesions on my bones. “

“Of course, the doctors don’t want to be complacent and I will have my last session on July 1. A week after that, I will be tested again and if it is negative again, I will simply be in maintenance. Hopefully that it will not come back, “added Gorayeb.
